I Hear You and I Am Here for You! -Using Effective Communication Skills to be Fully Present for Your Clients Before, during, and After a Coaching Session

Being hired as someone’s coach is quite the compliment, one that’s not to be taken lightly! The client is placing his or her trust in you as a qualified professional who can guide him or her to clarity and results. You’re also the accountability partner and the one to provide encouragement, among other roles.

As a coach, you must be fully present during a coaching session, but it’s just as important to be fully present before and after the coaching session. In other words, you must be fully present at all times for your clients!

ICFVa –Hampton Roads member Amy Walton will speak on using effective communication skills to be fully present during a coaching session, but she’s taking it a step further by offering additional communication techniques to demonstrate a coach’s constant presence in a client’s life in that “in between sessions” time. Learn some effective ways to convey to your client “I hear you” and “I am here for you!”

Learning Objectives:

1.     Understand how to use communication skills you may have already learned and apply them to coaching clients to create a deeper connection with them.

2.     Learn what specific communication skills are important in effectively coaching clients.

Related ICF Competencies:

·       Setting the Foundation –Establishing trust and intimacy with the client

·       Communicating Effectively –Active listening, direct communication

·       Coaching Presence –Is present and flexible during the coaching process, dancing in the moment
